Independent Stave Company seeks a self-motivated, hardworking individual to join our procurement team as an assistant log buyer.
As the assistant log buyer, you will be responsible for purchasing logs, developing a supplier base, and reporting all activities to the Log Procurement Manager as required.
This position requires an individual to work independently and have strong time-management skills and a work ethic to succeed.
Some travel is required, and experience with loaders or forklifts is a plus.

$19-$22 an hour, plus bonuses, paid quarterly.
Essential Duties of the Assistant Log Buyer:
Responsible for purchasing logs using the company buying standard.
Develop and achieve the purchasing goals and objectives for a defined territory.
Establish positive long-term supplier relations through ethical, consistent, and professional performance.
Develop and maintain prospective suppliers by making calls and conducting site visits.
Provide timely and accurate reporting of purchases, suppliers, and all territory management activities as required.
Work closely with management to develop assigned territory aligned with the company's objectives.
Use forklifts or loaders on the log yards.
Qualifications of the Assistant Log Buyer:
Some previous log buying experience is preferred, or 2-3 years experience working in the wood products industry or forestry-related Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making ability.
Computer proficiency in MS Office, Excel, e-mail, and Internet functions.
Familiarity with the use of heavy equipment is a plus.
Must be able to travel and occasionally stay overnight.
